What type of insurance should a doula have ?
At present there is no appropriate insurance available for doulas, but we are looking into it as new doulas in particular do get concerned about insurance issues. The thing to remember is that if a doula does her work properly, adhering to the code of practice and limitations of service that are set out by the doula register then the doula should never be in a position to be sued. This is because doulas do not give clinical advice and have no responsibility for clinical outcomes. Simply put, the doula's job is to support the woman in her choices, not to tell her what to do. |
